About the role#
This position is designed for nursing students to gain clinical experience and exposure within a Med-Surg unit. You will work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse to provide direct patient care and develop your clinical skills. This is a part-time role that offers an opportunity to apply your classroom learning in a hospital setting.
What you'll do#
- Support the Registered Nurse in applying the nursing process and ensuring quality care.
- Provide basic patient care, including recording vital signs, assisting with personal hygiene, and helping with mobility.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as feeding, hydration, and ambulation.
- Act as a liaison between patients and the nursing staff to report changes or concerns.
- Participate in hand-off reports and document patient data accurately and in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team and perform delegated tasks once your competency is validated.
- Provide customer service to patients, families, and visitors.
- Use clinical technology and escalate concerns through the appropriate chain of command.
What you'll need#
- A High School diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a nursing program.
- Completion of at least one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation.
- Ability to communicate clearly and follow directions from the healthcare team.
- Knowledge of patient safety standards, infection prevention, and nursing processes.
- BLS certification and recent experience in acute or long-term care are preferred.
