    About the role#

    The Graduate Researcher Program (GRP) is a 10-12 week internship designed for students currently pursuing a PhD. This program combines hands-on industry work with professional development. You will join the Engineering and Technology Innovation Aerosciences Group in Huntington Beach. The team develops and applies aerodynamic analysis tools for flight platforms ranging from low-speed to hypersonic flight.

    What you'll do#

    • Develop and apply advanced aerodynamic analysis tools and processes.
    • Create tools to increase analysis fidelity while reducing cycle time and cost.
    • Analyze aerodynamic data including pressures, force and moment, and flow-field information.
    • Participate in mentorship within your field of study.
    • Attend weekly Featured Speaker Talks and an in-person GRP Summit.
    • Take part in an Innovation Challenge.

    What you'll need#

    • Completion of the first year of PhD studies by July 2027.
    • Current enrollment in a PhD program for Aeronautical, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering.
    • Ability to work full-time for 10-12 weeks during Summer 2027.
    • Fundamental knowledge of computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
    • Experience with CFD applications, code development, and numerical methods for unstructured or structured grids.
    • Proficiency in scientific programming languages including C, FORTRAN, or C++.
    • Experience working in Linux/Unix environments.
    • Strong communication skills.
    • Preferred: A background in compressible flows.
    • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements (U.S. Person status required).

    • Note: Work performed during this internship cannot contribute to or be used in your PhD thesis.
