    About the role#

    The Microelectronics R&D Intern position is part of the Boeing Graduate Researcher Program. This 10-12 week summer internship connects PhD students with Boeing research teams to work on real-world industry challenges. You will work onsite with senior engineers and researchers to develop technologies for aerospace applications. Please note that work performed during this internship cannot be used in your PhD thesis.

    What you'll do#

    • Conduct research and development in advanced microelectronics.
    • Focus on the design, verification, modeling, test, or analysis of digital, analog, mixed-signal, or RF circuits, sub-systems, and SoCs.
    • Apply expertise to emerging challenges in AI, radar, electronic warfare, navigation, and secure communication systems.
    • Work with senior engineers to transition research concepts into viable technologies.
    • Document findings, present results to technical leaders, and contribute to internal R&D knowledge bases.

    What you'll need#

    • Completion of the first year of a PhD program by July 2027.
    • Enrollment in a PhD program for Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Microelectronics, Applied Physics, or a related discipline.
    • Availability to work full-time for 10-12 weeks during Summer 2027.
    • Coursework or research experience in digital logic design, SoC architecture, semiconductor device physics, CMOS/BiCMOS fabrication, analog/mixed-signal circuit design, or RF/millimeter-wave circuit design.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
    • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
    • Experience with industry-standard EDA tools like Cadence, Synopsys, or Siemens EDA is preferred.
    • Experience with microelectronics in extreme environments, such as high radiation or extreme temperatures, is preferred.
    • Experience conducting independent research, publishing results, or presenting at conferences is preferred.

    • This role is 100% on-site.
    • Locations: Huntington Beach, California or Tukwila, Washington.
    • This position does not provide visa sponsorship.
