About the role#
As an Enterprise Cybersecurity Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Intern, you will support internal data protection operations within a Cyber Fusion Center. This role provides hands-on experience with enterprise data protection tools, incident analysis, and policy management. You will work alongside experienced analysts to help safeguard sensitive information and gain practical exposure to security operations.
What you'll do#
- Compile monthly and quarterly DLP metrics for executive-ready summaries.
- Test detection rules in a sandbox or non-prod environment.
- Triage low-severity DLP alerts based on established escalation criteria.
- Research determination logic for false-positive and true-positive alerts.
- Review DLP policies to identify and update redundant rules.
- Document lessons learned from tuning exercises and migration evaluations.
- Assist with data classification initiatives and user awareness activities.
- Partner with senior analysts to present findings in team reviews.
- Participate in team meetings and discuss emerging data protection threats.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Security, Analytics, or Data Science with an expected graduation date by December 2028.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, solutions, or technologies.
- Understanding of data protection concepts, including data classification and information security.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
- Interest in data protection, security operations, or compliance.
- Familiarity with DLP tools like Microsoft Purview or Trellix is helpful.
- Knowledge of cloud security in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform is a plus.
- Familiarity with data privacy regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, or HIPAA.
- Knowledge of insider threat detection and user behavior analytics.
