About the role#
The Advanced Cybersecurity Intern joins our Security Office to focus on either Compliance/GRC or Security Operations/SecOps. You will work alongside our security teams, Software Development, and IT Operations to protect our technology stacks. This role is a paid, full-time position located in Ames, Iowa.
What you'll do#
- Prepare for security audits including NIST, ISO, and SOC standards.
- Collect evidence for compliance reviews.
- Monitor infrastructure and assets for vulnerabilities, weaknesses, and active cyber-attacks.
- Triage security findings and perform threat intelligence.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to implement security controls.
- Develop and document processes and procedures related to security controls.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a two or four year institution, specializing in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
- A major GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Familiarity with Cybersecurity and Software Assurance concepts.
- Knowledge of software development practices, project management, or information systems management.
- Ability to research and solve complex security problems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with security audit frameworks and interpreting SAST/DAST results.
- Proficiency with security tools such as network scanning, monitoring, and SIEM software.
- Understanding of network ports, protocols, firewall traffic, and security best practices.
- Technical background including experience with Java, Python, automation, scripting, and AWS cloud services.
