About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in project administration within the Parks and Recreation department. You will work alongside professionals to improve public spaces, athletic fields, and infrastructure throughout Fort Wayne. This role is for students who enjoy turning field data into real plans.
What you'll do#
- Support construction and improvement projects for Parks and Recreation.
- Prepare detailed drawings, sketches, and site plans for park construction.
- Collect field and GIS data while maintaining accurate survey notes.
- Assist with ADA inspections of park buildings, grounds, and facilities.
- Prepare rough project cost estimates.
- Organize maps, drawings, and specifications.
- Support drafting and engineering technicians with surveying, measurements, and utility locations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in Construction, Architecture, Civil Engineering Technology, Landscape Architecture, or a related program.
- Completion of sophomore-level requirements within your major.
- Basic drafting knowledge and experience using AutoCAD.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations using algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
- Strong organization, communication, recordkeeping, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of ArcGIS, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint is preferred.
- Experience with surveying and field-measuring equipment is preferred.
- Ability to interpret field notes, establish lines and grades, and prepare project drawings is preferred.
- A valid Indiana driver's license is preferred if operating a City vehicle.
