About the role#
The Engineering Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting manufacturing operations and engineering initiatives at our South Bend facility. This role provides exposure to process engineering, technical documentation, and continuous improvement activities within a chemical manufacturing environment. You will partner with Process Engineers, Production, EHS, and Plant Leadership teams to improve process documentation and support projects that drive operational excellence, safety, and business performance.
What you'll do#
- Support engineering projects focused on process improvement, productivity enhancements, and operational excellence.
- Review, verify, and update Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) through field observations, collaboration with plant personnel, and AutoCAD revisions.
- Evaluate opportunities for productivity and cost-savings initiatives by analyzing operational data, KPIs, and project requirements.
- Assist with project planning and execution.
- Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure documentation remains accurate, current, and aligned with site practices and safety requirements.
- Partner with Engineering, Production, EHS, and Site Leadership teams to provide project updates and support continuous improvement efforts.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum status of a rising junior or senior.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments in a team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with AutoCAD or technical drawing software is preferred.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing and chemical processing is preferred.
