About the role#
The Medical Reimbursement Intern will work within the Insurance Refunds process to gain experience in revenue cycle operations, financial controls, and regulatory compliance. You will collaborate with the Accounting and Accounts Payable teams to coordinate refund processing, manage documentation, and support financial reporting. This role involves researching payor-specific requirements and contributing to the resolution of outstanding insurance credits.
What you'll do#
- Research and identify payor-specific refund requirements, including documentation and standardized forms.
- Prepare and assemble refund request packets to meet payor guidelines.
- Partner with Accounting and Accounts Payable to coordinate refund processing.
- Update patient and insurance accounts in Brightree after refunds are processed to ensure accurate balances.
- Support the reduction of aged insurance credits, specifically those exceeding 365 days.
- Track refund submissions and follow up on returned or rejected checks.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a post-secondary program in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- 3-6 months of related office clerical or data entry experience, or completion of relevant course work.
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to manage tasks independently, meet milestones, and pay close attention to detail.
Location & details#
- Location: New Berlin, Wisconsin.
- Work Modality: Hybrid, with onsite presence required on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm.
- Status: Paid internship.
