About the role#
The DoorDash AI Research Fellowship is a 3-month program, with the possibility of extension to 6 months, for researchers and engineers focused on applied machine learning and AI problems in local commerce. Fellows operate as independent researchers with access to real-world operational data and internal research infrastructure. The program aims to produce work that influences the field and DoorDash operations at scale.
What you'll do#
- Propose and scope a research agenda aligned with priority areas.
- Build high-fidelity simulators and training environments using operational data.
- Conduct research on agentic systems for logistics and local commerce.
- Develop new benchmarks and evaluation methods for ML systems.
- Engage in regular check-ins, internal talks, and presentations.
- Produce a final write-up and pursue publication or production paths.
What you'll need#
- A strong track record in research.
- Status as a PhD candidate (rising 4th year or beyond), a recent PhD, or an independent researcher.
- Ability to operate independently without heavy supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort presenting work to mixed research and engineering audiences.
