    About the role#

    This internship provides experience in the daily work of a public historian. You will work at the Elk Grove Historical Museum, which includes a farmhouse, barn, and exhibition building. You will complete specific tasks and may develop a project approved by the museum curator and your academic advisor. This is a paid, full-time seasonal role for Summer 2026.

    What you'll do#

    • Process items in the collection and enter information into CatalogIt software.
    • Photograph artifacts for the museum records.
    • Assist with the planning and design of exhibits.
    • Conduct tours of the museum site.
    • Help plan and run events and programs.
    • Perform research and assist with inventory management.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in a degree or certificate program in History, Public Health, Anthropology, Sociology, or Political Science.
    • Basic computer skills, including Google Docs and Sheets.
    • Familiarity with research and writing processes.
    • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
    • Experience with CatalogIt is preferred.
    • Knowledge of history.

    • Location: Elk Grove Village, Illinois.
    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Compensation: $15.00 per hour.
