About the role#
This internship provides experience in the daily work of a public historian. You will work at the Elk Grove Historical Museum, which includes a farmhouse, barn, and exhibition building. You will complete specific tasks and may develop a project approved by the museum curator and your academic advisor. This is a paid, full-time seasonal role for Summer 2026.
What you'll do#
- Process items in the collection and enter information into CatalogIt software.
- Photograph artifacts for the museum records.
- Assist with the planning and design of exhibits.
- Conduct tours of the museum site.
- Help plan and run events and programs.
- Perform research and assist with inventory management.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree or certificate program in History, Public Health, Anthropology, Sociology, or Political Science.
- Basic computer skills, including Google Docs and Sheets.
- Familiarity with research and writing processes.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds.
- Experience with CatalogIt is preferred.
- Knowledge of history.
