About the role#
Elk Valley Resources is hiring for a Mining Engineering Co-op position starting in January 2027. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Sparwood, British Columbia. The term lasts for 8 or 12 months. You will work within the Coal Division and gain hands-on experience by applying academic knowledge to real-world mining operations.
What you'll do#
- Follow all health and safety programs and policies.
- Work with engineering and operations teams to develop mine operations plans, including daily, weekly, and monthly schedules.
- Assist with pit and dump design, production scheduling, and fleet optimization.
- Contribute to drilling, blasting, and surveying activities.
- Provide technical support to production and other site departments.
- Monitor operating areas and assist with geotechnical evaluations.
- Track and report on mine permit compliance.
- Perform economic evaluations and productivity analyses while assisting with capital expenditure documentation.
- Develop and test new ideas and technologies to improve business processes.
What you'll need#
- Currently working toward an undergraduate degree in Mining or Mineral Resource Engineering.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent, without learner's restrictions.
- Ability to operate vehicles in various weather conditions and terrain.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain complex ideas.
- Comfort working in an industrial environment with diverse technical and operational staff.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
