About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience within the finance and accounting department of a publicly traded financial services company. You will report to the Assistant Controller and gain insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of an entry-level accountant. The program spans from June 2027 through May 2028, providing exposure to various functional areas of the department.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the month-end close process by preparing journal entries, analyzing accounts, and helping draft financial statements.
- Complete general ledger account reconciliations and investigate variances in internal checking accounts to support audit readiness.
- Update the master control list for SOX planning and testing while documenting control changes.
- Code invoices to the correct general ledger accounts and support the Accounts Payable team with payment processing.
- Learn how financial data is consolidated and reported within a commercial banking environment.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accounting or finance degree program, preferably at the junior level.
- Completion of introductory accounting and finance coursework.
- Proficiency in technology, specifically with Excel.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines, solve problems, and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
Location & details#
- Location: Madison, Wisconsin.
- Schedule: On-site starting June 2027, transitioning to remote work during the school year.
- Commitment: Minimum of 10 hours per week through May 2028.
- Status: Paid, full-time internship.
