    About the role#

    Hermeus is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our Fluids Team in Los Angeles for the Fall 2026 term. This role focuses on the design and integration of hydraulic systems, fuel systems, and supporting structural components for hypersonic aircraft. You will work on-site for approximately 16 weeks, from September through December.

    What you'll do#

    • Create structural designs to support vehicle subsystems, including hydraulics, fuel systems, propulsion, and avionics.
    • Perform structural and thermal analyses using hand calculations and FEA.
    • Lead trade studies across mechanical, fluid, and avionics subsystems, focusing on mass efficiency, cost, and performance.
    • Own hardware development through the full lifecycle, from initial concept to design, fabrication, integration, and final testing.
    • Work with manufacturing, supply chain, and test teams to ensure designs are practical and meet program objectives.
    • Present technical content during internal reviews and represent the team in cross-functional or customer meetings.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an accredited undergraduate, Master's, or Ph.D. program.
    • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Thermal Fluids, Structural, or a related engineering field.
    • A solid grasp of engineering first principles.
    • Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • A GPA of 3.0 or higher.

    • Location: Los Angeles, California.
    • Term: Fall 2026 (September to December).
    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Employment: Full-time internship.
    • Compensation: Paid position.
    • Export Control: This role requires access to information subject to U.S. export controls. Candidates must be a U.S. person as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.62 or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.
