About the role#
This is an unpaid internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program, specifically designed for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. This role offers the opportunity to train as an Inside Machinist (Marine Mechanic) at HII Mission Technologies in Pearl Harbor. You will work closely with mentors and senior leadership to gain hands-on experience in machining, fabrication, and shipboard component refurbishment, with the goal of transitioning into a full-time position.
What you'll do#
- Train as an Inside Machinist (Marine Mechanic) under the guidance of experienced supervisors.
- Set up and operate conventional lathes, milling machines, band saws, and drill presses.
- Fabricate and refurbish shipboard components using templates and technical specifications.
- Read and interpret ship drawings, technical manuals, and engineering documentation.
- Manage small fabrication projects, including scheduling, reporting, and delivery.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments to maintain dimensional accuracy and quality control.
What you'll need#
- Active-Duty Military status within your final 180 days of service.
- Ability to obtain a SECRET security clearance.
- Previous experience operating a lathe.
- Proficiency with mechanical equipment and tools used for ship repairs.
- Ability to read and interpret ship drawings, technical documents, and manuals.
- Capability to perform physical work, including lifting 30+ pounds.
- You must provide your own hand tools per trade specialty.
