About the role#
The Total Portfolio Group (TPG) manages the overall composition of the HOOPP fund to ensure long-term stability. This team acts as the central hub for macroeconomic insights, portfolio construction, asset allocation, and liquidity management. As an intern, you will support the transition to a Total Portfolio Approach (TPA) by building tools that help the team make informed fund-level decisions. You will work alongside professionals in finance, statistics, and data science while gaining exposure to senior leadership and the CIO office.
What you'll do#
- Develop and test TPA-related indicators and dashboards, including proof-of-concept work.
- Design and build reporting and visualization tools to track portfolio risk, exposures, and liquidity.
- Automate daily and periodic processes using Python and VBA, including error checking and reconciliation of key metrics.
- Use the BlackRock Aladdin system and internal platforms to generate portfolio insights and conduct what-if analysis.
- Collaborate with the technology team on investment initiatives and system consistency.
- Prepare materials for senior management and committees by turning technical analysis into clear insights.
- Conduct research on markets, risk methodologies, and portfolio construction.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a university program for Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, or a related quantitative field.
- Strong coding skills in Python, specifically for data manipulation, analytics, and automation.
- Experience with Power BI or other data visualization software.
- Proficiency in VBA and Excel, including the ability to manage large datasets.
- An interest in investment technology, data platforms, and the application of AI in finance.
- Strong numeracy and an ability to communicate complex findings effectively.
- Familiarity with investment risk systems like Aladdin or progress toward a CFA or FRM designation are considered assets.
