About the role#
Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey is hiring an Actuary Intern for our Newark office. This is a full-time, paid internship program running for 11 weeks during the summer of 2027. You will work under general supervision to support our actuarial department, gaining experience in standard actuarial concepts and practices.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with the Actuary and Analytics team on current initiatives.
- Map data structures and identify correlations between elements.
- Source and acquire new data sets to improve the accuracy of existing models.
- Perform quantitative and mathematical actuarial tasks, including reserve calculations, pricing analysis, and financial projections.
- Provide technical and analytical support to the broader department.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics.
- At least one actuarial exam completed.
- Strong math and statistics skills.
- Intermediate or Advanced Excel proficiency.
- Working knowledge of VBA or SQL.
- Experience with SAS is highly preferred.
- Ability to learn and develop technical tools for data analysis.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Newark, New Jersey.
- The position is hybrid, requiring two days per week in the office.
- The program runs from June 7, 2027, to August 19, 2027.
- Work hours are 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.
