    About the role#

    The Government Relations Intern supports our team in executing public policy strategy. You will work with the Manager of State Government Affairs to help advocate for our cooperative and build relationships with key stakeholders. This role offers exposure to legislative meetings, advocacy events, and trade association activities.

    What you'll do#

    • Research policy issues and develop internal memos.
    • Monitor government proposals at both state and federal levels.
    • Create stakeholder maps and help prepare for meetings.
    • Draft summaries of hearings and policy issues.
    • Update our grassroots management systems.
    • Prepare materials for trade association fly-ins and attend these events with our staff and member-owners.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a four-year degree program in Political Science, Communications, Business, Economics, Pre-Law, or a related field.
    • A clear interest in politics, public policy, and the food and agriculture industry.
    • A basic understanding of government processes and current events.
    • Strong business writing and verbal communication skills.
    • The ability to manage multiple projects and work independently.

    Location & details#

    • Pay is $23 per hour.
    • The internship runs from January 2027 through July 2027.
    • The schedule is part-time from January through May and transitions to full-time during the summer.
    • From January to May, the role is virtual or hybrid in Arden Hills, MN, or Washington, D.C.
    • During the summer, the role is in-person in Washington, D.C.
