About the role#
Mesh Optical Technologies is looking for an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join our team as an intern or co-op. You will work directly with our engineering team on the design and build of our optical interconnect products and the factory that produces them. This is a hands-on role where you will own real tasks and contribute to our high-volume manufacturing efforts.
What you'll do#
- Design and build development test platforms to characterize the thermal, optical, and electrical aspects of our prototypes.
- Partner with a mentor to find production process improvements and own rapid-prototype hardware from CAD design through to the cleanroom.
- Perform finite element analysis and thermal simulations to support your designs.
- Create detailed drawings using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers on-site.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a BS or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- A GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- A portfolio of hands-on projects such as Formula SAE, SolarCar, Robotics, CubeSats, or similar personal builds.
- Proficiency with modern CAD software and version control.
- A strong analytical mindset with the ability to solve problems from first principles.
- Clear communication skills.
- Experience or interest in multidisciplinary work involving electrical and software engineering concepts is a plus.

- Location: Gardena, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $26.00 to $38.00 per hour, depending on your academic year.
- Benefits: Includes a flexible monthly housing and transportation stipend for your time in Los Angeles.
- Status: Paid, full-time, rolling term.
