    About the role#

    As an R&D Materials Engineer intern, you will join the Next Gen team to help develop brain-computer interfaces. You will work alongside scientists and engineers to create new ideas, materials, and processes for our next generation of implants. This role requires you to solve a wide range of problems and communicate your findings to the team.

    What you'll do#

    • Contribute to the development of next-generation microelectrode materials.
    • Partner with the microfabrication team to move concepts from ideas to hardware.
    • Develop solutions for electrode-tissue interfaces to improve sensitivity and longevity.
    • Perform materials characterization and surface chemistry experiments.
    • Design and fabricate custom test fixtures for new experiments.
    • Execute established protocols and design new experiments as needed.
    • Troubleshoot, iterate, and share your results with the team.

    What you'll need#

    • Exceptional ability in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
    • At least 2 years of academic or industry experience.
    • A strong grasp of the scientific method and engineering first principles.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Experience with chemical handling and safe lab practices.
    • Proficiency in SolidWorks or other CAD software is preferred.
    • Familiarity with surface characterization techniques like contact angle, FTIR, XPS, or AFM is a plus.
    • Experience with microscopy and electrochemistry is also preferred.

    • Modality: On-site.
    • Compensation: $35 per hour.
    • Status: Full-time, paid internship.
