About the role#
POET is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This position supports the POET Design and Construction team with the design, implementation, and specification of plant process systems. You will work under the guidance of staff engineers to develop your technical skills while contributing to real projects.
What you'll do#
- Assist with mechanical engineering and drafting tasks related to HVAC, ventilation, plumbing, and process piping.
- Complete data analysis of mechanical designs.
- Support equipment specification, procurement, and contract administration.
- Assist with on-site commissioning and start-up activities.
- Travel up to 25% of the time to visit bioprocessing facilities and attend meetings.
- Participate in physical site activities, which may include using hand tools, climbing ladders, and working in various environmental conditions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a junior or senior in an Engineering program, with a preference for Mechanical Engineering.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to understand the technical operations of a bioprocessing facility.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
