About the role#
As a Substation Engineer Intern in the Grid business unit, you will join a project team to support the design and execution of energy infrastructure projects. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers on tasks related to transmission, substation, distribution, and renewable energy systems. This position is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is scheduled for the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Assist in preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, and design documents.
- Track and evaluate project activities, progress, and relevant data.
- Prepare specifications for the procurement of major electrical power equipment and installation services.
- Apply automation and AI tools to solve engineering problems, improve workflows, and reduce rework.
- Collaborate with team members on project execution for energy storage and power delivery systems.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science program in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering.
- Knowledge of design techniques and principles used to produce technical plans, blueprints, and models.
- Ability to visualize parts in 3D without computer assistance.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.
- Prior internship or co-op experience is preferred.
