About the role#
As a Substation Engineer Intern, you will join our Grid business unit for the summer of 2027. You will work on a project team to support the design of transmission, substation, distribution, renewable, and battery energy storage systems. You will work under the direction of senior engineers to gain hands-on experience with real-world engineering projects.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the preparation of engineering designs, specifications, and calculations.
- Handle tasks related to project reporting, including tracking and evaluating project progress and data.
- Participate in power designs and prepare specifications for the procurement of major electrical power equipment and installation services.
- Solve engineering problems by moving from issue to solution using data and modern tools.
- Use automation and AI to improve workflows and deliver cost-effective designs.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree program in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Experience using agentic AI.
- Knowledge of design techniques and principles for creating technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Ability to visualize parts in 3D without computer assistance.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize issues to meet deadlines.

- This position is located on-site in Atlanta, Georgia.
- This is a full-time, paid internship for the summer of 2027.
