About the role#
This internship offers an opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary team of water resources professionals. You will support local design staff on projects involving water and wastewater infrastructure. The role involves a mix of office-based design work, data analysis, and field investigations. You will gain exposure to the planning, design, and construction phases of projects while working alongside experienced practitioners.
What you'll do#
- Collect and organize data for engineering reports and technical studies.
- Prepare calculations, charts, and graphs.
- Perform modeling using Excel or hydraulic software.
- Assist in the development of plans and exhibits using CADD and GIS software.
- Draft portions of technical memoranda and backcheck drawing corrections.
- Support the design of municipal water and wastewater conveyance pipelines, lift stations, and stormwater drainage structures.
- Participate in client interactions, presentations, and note taking.
- Assist with construction phase administration and field investigations.
- Support project managers and engineers with daily tasks and permit applications.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil, environmental, biosystems, or water resources engineering.
- Completed at least 2 years of undergraduate coursework.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Commitment of at least 10 hours per week.
- Valid driver's license.
- Proficiency in MS Office, specifically Word and Excel.
- Coursework or exposure to hydraulics, water/wastewater treatment, or infrastructure design.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work flexibly within a team and take initiative.
- Experience with PowerPoint, AutoCAD, Revit, or Civil 3D is a plus.
