About the role#
As an Engineering Intern at Summit Utilities, you will work with our natural gas engineering team to research, prepare, design, and document capital construction projects. This role supports the modernization and advancement of our natural gas distribution system. You will gain experience in design, project documentation, and field operations.
What you'll do#
- Support designers with daily project duties to produce construction document deliverables for natural gas systems.
- Assist with hydraulic analysis studies to determine design parameters using company modeling software.
- Perform occasional field work to review construction compliance with company standards.
- Manage accurate record keeping for gas system installations, including pipeline inspections, excavations, and easements.
- Coordinate with the GIS department and research historical installation and repair documentation.
- Update project status in Access databases and Excel spreadsheets.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a full-time student pursuing an ABET accredited Bachelor of Science in Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering.
- Sophomore, junior, or senior standing with a strong GPA.
- Technical and analytical capability with a high level of attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Autodesk/Civil-3D, and modeling or simulation programs.
- Ability to learn and immediately implement training on new software.
- Strong mathematical proficiency and basic engineering knowledge.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with others and accept feedback.
- Personal initiative and motivation.
