About the role#
The Assistant Director supports the development and implementation of programming for first-generation students. This role builds community to help students with retention, persistence, and degree completion. You will work under general supervision to meet institutional goals.
What you'll do#
- Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate first-generation student programming, including events like First-Generation Graduation Reception and First-Gen Fridays.
- Advise the First-Gen Student Organization and First-Gen Ambassadors on program development and activities.
- Enhance collaborations with various university offices and departments to support student success initiatives.
- Manage all publications and marketing for first-generation events, including flyers, brochures, and digital communications.
- Represent the Center for First-Generation Students at events and activities.
What you'll need#
- A Master’s degree in higher education, student development, counseling, or a related field.
- Two years of related work experience with first-generation students or student advising.
- Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate complex operations using institutional resources.
- Skill in handling multiple projects and coordinating large groups of student volunteers.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
