About the role#
The Arc Wayne offers paid experiential learning internships for high school students. You can choose to work within our Residential, Day, or Community Services programs. This role provides an introduction to human services with flexible evening and weekend hours available in residential and community settings. We prefer candidates who are interested in transitioning to a scheduled position once they turn 18.
What you'll do#
Under the guidance of qualified staff, you will help people with their daily routines and activities. Your responsibilities include:
- Assisting with morning routines such as dressing, brushing teeth, and completing chores.
- Supporting individuals on outings, recreational trips, and medical appointments.
- Helping with physical programs that do not require specialized in-servicing.
- Providing support during transport.
You will also work independently on tasks such as:
- Cleaning, organizing, and laundry.
- Meal preparation and kitchen cleanup.
- Gardening, landscaping, and mowing.
- Leading activities like painting, games, reading, and crafts.
- Facilitating wellness activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in high school.
- Minimum age of 17.
- The ability to physically assist individuals who use wheelchairs or walkers.
Location & details#
This is an on-site, paid internship with rolling start dates. Work locations include Newark, Lyons, Palmyra, and Sodus, New York.
