About the role#
The Creative Play Lab is an innovation hub focused on inventing new play experiences. As a Mechanical Engineering intern, you will work within a multidisciplinary team to develop technologies and concepts that push the boundaries of play. This is a full-time, paid internship for the Winter 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Apply first-principles reasoning to break down complex problems into fundamental components.
- Collaborate across mechanical, electronics, mechatronics, and embedded teams to build new technologies.
- Assist with root-cause investigations by gathering data, running tests, and reviewing failure modes.
- Proactively manage tasks, seek feedback, and ask questions to move projects forward.
- Communicate progress, blockers, and technical findings clearly to the engineering team.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a mechanical engineering, industrial design, or related engineering program.
- Prior co-op experience in mechanical engineering or industrial design.
- Experience with engineering tools, including sketching, 3D printing, and hand tools.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling using Siemens NX or similar CAD software.
- Ability to translate CAD models into physical prototypes.
- Enthusiasm for the full product lifecycle, from early-stage ideation to mass production.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.

- This role is based in Boston, Massachusetts.
- The position follows a hybrid work model with 3 days in the office per week.
- This is a full-time, paid internship. No relocation or housing assistance is provided.
