About the role#
The Manufacturing Sciences Intern role is a 10-week summer position based in Rockford, Illinois. You will join the Manufacturing Sciences team to work on efficiency improvements and manufacturing troubleshooting projects. This role focuses on improving quality, increasing yield, and reducing hazards for processes related to organic synthesis, biochemistry, and reagent formulations. You will receive mentorship from Technical Operation scientists while learning to apply statistical methods for experimental design and data analysis.
What you'll do#
- Perform laboratory experiments to test and validate processes, including techniques like liquid chromatography, NMR, mass spectrometry, ELISA, and Western blotting.
- Implement experimental plans and accurately record all materials, procedures, and results.
- Write or edit product-related documents such as specification sheets and manufacturing batch records.
- Manage your time effectively to meet project goals and deadlines.
- Present project overviews and results to team members and collaborators.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Material Science, or an equivalent field, with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- At least 1 year of previous internship or work experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with basic laboratory skills including pipetting, analytical balance usage, and buffer preparation.
- Proven leadership experience through campus organizations, athletics, volunteer work, or other roles.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Geographic mobility and flexibility for internship and future career opportunities.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

- Location: Rockford, Illinois.
- Term: Summer 2027 (start dates available May 24 or June 14).
- Modality: This is a full-time, on-site position.
- Compensation: Paid internship with an hourly rate between $21.50 and $28.75.
