About the role#
TRIUMF is seeking an undergraduate student to support the TUCAN collaboration. This role focuses on fundamental physics experiments involving ultracold neutrons. You will contribute to precision measurements and the search for new physics beyond the Standard Model.
What you'll do#
- Support the commissioning of the next-generation ultracold neutron source.
- Conduct magnetic field studies, including field mapping, monitoring, and shielding investigations.
- Set up and calibrate magnetic sensors.
- Develop Python tools for experiment monitoring, data analysis, and visualization.
- Assist with mechanical and CAD design, lab assembly, testing, and documentation.
- Participate in TUCAN and TRIUMF meetings while collaborating with international partners.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate Physics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering program (co-op eligible).
- A strong interest in experimental research.
- Experience with Python and basic lab troubleshooting.
- An organized approach and a focus on safety.
- Ability to communicate progress effectively within a team.
- CAD or mechanical design experience is considered an asset.

- Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 4, 2027, to April 30, 2027).
- Modality: This is a full-time, on-site position.
