    About the role#

    As a Photosensor Student Research Assistant, you will join the neutrino group at TRIUMF. This role supports the characterization of photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) for the Super-Kamiokande and Hyper-Kamiokande experiments. You will work at the Photosensor Test Facility (PTF), a specialized laboratory designed to test PMTs using laser light and precision gantry systems.

    What you'll do#

    • Operate the PTF to collect data from Super-K and Hyper-K photosensors.
    • Perform data analysis using Python and ROOT.
    • Develop and debug system models using simulation tools like COMSOL and GEANT4.
    • Assist with the operation of motor-controllers, electrical pulse digitizers, and magnetic field measurements.
    • Maintain and upgrade PTF hardware, including the gantry system, optical boxes, Helmholtz coils, cabling, and PMT mounts.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as an undergraduate student in physics, engineering physics, or physics and astronomy.
    • Proficiency in C++ and Python programming languages.
    • Familiarity with the Linux operating system.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
    • A quick learning style to adapt to complex experimental systems.
    • Previous co-op experience is considered an asset but is not required.

    Location & details#

    • This position is based on-site in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
    • The term runs from January 4, 2027, to April 30, 2027.
    • This is a full-time, paid position.
