About the role#
Union Pacific Railroad is hiring up to two Law Clerks for a summer internship in Omaha, Nebraska. You will work alongside in-house attorneys on matters including transportation, intellectual property, commercial contracts, supply chain, regulatory affairs, litigation, and employment law. This role provides direct exposure to the functions of an in-house legal department. Interns receive mentoring and feedback throughout the summer. There is potential for the role to transition into a flexible, year-round internship while you remain enrolled in school.
What you'll do#
- Support attorneys with contractual drafting and review.
- Conduct legal research and prepare written legal analysis.
- Draft legal memoranda, briefs, pleadings, and other legal documents.
- Assist with hearing and trial preparation.
- Review discovery materials, work product, and other documents to determine relevance to legal issues.
- Interpret and apply statutes and regulations to specific legal matters.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited law school.
- Successful completion of at least one year of law school.
- Completed coursework in Legal Writing.
- Experience or coursework in Legal Research.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work full-time in Omaha during the summer program.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

- Location: Omaha, Nebraska.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: On-site and hybrid.
- Compensation: $31.00 per hour.
- Benefits: Housing, transportation, and relocation stipends are provided for qualified students living more than 75 miles from Omaha. The office includes a fitness center, cafeteria, and credit union access.
