About the role#
The Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury offers a 10-week paid internship for the summer of 2027. This program runs from June 1 to August 6. You will participate in active audit operations, receive audit-specific training, and engage in professional development. This is a full-time, on-site role based in the Middle Tennessee region.
What you'll do#
- Examine and review records, reports, financial statements, and management practices.
- Evaluate the fairness of financial statement presentation and the adequacy of internal controls.
- Assess the efficiency and effectiveness of entity operations and systems.
- Determine compliance with laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements.
- Participate in professional development activities, including Business Etiquette Day.
- Present findings that showcase your work and contributions to the office.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a rising junior, senior, or graduate student in an accounting program.
- Successful completion of at least 6 credit hours of accounting coursework.
- Preference is given to students who have completed intermediate or advanced accounting classes.
- Ability to think critically and adapt to different audit assignments.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, organizational, and writing skills.
- Capacity to work effectively both individually and as part of a team.
- A willingness to learn and grow throughout the summer.

- Location: Nashville, Tennessee.
- Term: Summer 2027 (June 1 to August 6).
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Travel: Limited travel to counties within the Middle Tennessee region is required for audit assignments, generally involving same-day commutes.
- Compensation: Paid at $24 per hour.
- Note: This position requires a criminal background check.
