    About the role#

    The Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury offers a 10-week paid internship for students interested in governmental auditing. This program runs from June 1 to August 6, 2027. Interns participate in active audits, receive specialized training, and engage in professional development activities. You will work as part of a cohort and gain hands-on experience in the public sector.

    What you'll do#

    • Examine and review records, reports, financial statements, and management practices for local government entities.
    • Evaluate the fairness of financial statement presentation and the adequacy of internal controls.
    • Assess the efficiency and effectiveness of an entity's operations and systems.
    • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a rising junior, senior, or graduate student in an accounting, finance, or business administration program.
    • Successful completion of at least 6 credit hours of accounting coursework.
    • Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, organizational, and writing skills.
    • Ability to think critically and work effectively both individually and within a team.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Jackson, Tennessee.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Compensation: $24 per hour.
    • Travel: Limited travel to counties within the West Tennessee region is required. Some overnight stays for intern events are necessary, with expenses reimbursed. This position requires a criminal background check.
