    About the role#

    The Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury offers a 10-week paid internship program for students interested in governmental auditing. This role provides hands-on experience through assignments to active audits, professional development training, and cohort activities. The program runs from June 1 to August 6, 2027.

    What you'll do#

    • Perform examinations following attestation standards from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
    • Conduct desk reviews by obtaining and analyzing financial and statistical data.
    • Review records, financial statements, claims data, and cost reports for providers in the TennCare Program.
    • Determine the accuracy and reasonableness of information submitted by providers.
    • Participate in professional development activities, including networking and a final presentation of your contributions.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a rising junior, senior, or graduate student in an accounting, finance, or business administration program.
    • Completion of at least 6 credit hours of accounting coursework. Preference is given to those who have finished intermediate or advanced accounting classes.
    • Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, organizational, and writing skills.
    • Ability to work effectively both individually and as part of a team.

    Location & details#

    • This internship is based in Nashville, Tennessee, and requires on-site work.
    • The role is full-time and paid at $24 per hour.
    • You may be required to perform in-state day travel to audit sites, which will be reimbursed.
    • A criminal background check is required for this position.
