    About the role#

    The Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury offers a 10-week paid internship for students interested in governmental auditing. This program provides hands-on experience through assignments to active audits and professional development training. Interns will work in the East Tennessee region from June 1 to August 6, 2027.

    What you'll do#

    • Examine and review records, reports, financial statements, and management practices.
    • Evaluate the fairness of financial statement presentation.
    • Assess the adequacy of internal controls.
    • Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of entity operations and systems.
    • Review compliance with laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a rising junior, senior, or graduate student in an accounting, finance, or business administration program.
    • Successful completion of at least 6 credit hours of accounting coursework.
    • Preference for students who have completed intermediate or advanced accounting classes.
    • Ability to think critically and work both individually and as part of a team.
    • Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, organizational, and writing skills.

    • Location: Knoxville, Tennessee.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Compensation: $24 per hour.
    • Status: Full-time internship.
    • Note: This position requires a criminal background check. Limited travel to counties across the East Tennessee region may be required.
