About the role#
The USGA is hiring five Championship Interns for the 2027 season. This role runs from February through October and involves managing the administration of national championships. You will handle qualifying processes, serve competitors and Allied Golf Associations, and work on-site at various events. This position provides hands-on training in sports management, championship operations, and volunteer management. Travel is a significant part of the role, requiring 45 to 50 days on the road to support championships. All interns will attend a one-week orientation at our headquarters in Liberty Corner, New Jersey.
What you'll do#
- Administer the qualifying process, championship entries, exemptions, and competitor customer service.
- Act as a point of contact for players, parents, agents, Allied Golf Associations, host clubs, tours, and staff.
- Compile data for the weekly World Amateur Golf Rankings.
- Prepare, organize, and ship championship equipment.
- Support on-site operations at three to five championships, including course marking, setup, player services, and Rules Office administration.
- Collaborate with USGA staff, host club teams, and volunteers.
- Train volunteers on scoring procedures and operating standards.
- Complete and present a capstone project to USGA staff.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor's degree, either currently enrolled or recently completed.
- Experience in competitive or administrative golf, or a strong interest in golf administration and the Rules of Golf.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently and follow detailed plans.
- Strong communication and follow-up skills with the ability to resolve issues calmly.
- Composure to work under pressure and adapt to changing conditions.
- A valid driver's license and a REAL ID or passport for air travel.
- Access to a reliable motor vehicle if you are a local applicant.
- A resourceful, professional, and organized approach to work.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- Work modality includes both remote and on-site responsibilities.
- The internship term spans Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall 2027.
- While the role can be performed remotely, working from our headquarters in Liberty Corner, New Jersey, is encouraged for those able to relocate or commute.
