About the role#
The Recreational Therapy team at The WELL provides inclusive and accessible recreation for the Sacramento State community. As a Recreational Therapy Attendant, you will support our mission to promote active lifestyles by helping run specialized programs and ensuring all participants have access to our services. This is a part-time, temporary student position.
What you'll do#
- Facilitate, set up, and break down inclusive programs while monitoring activities to ensure safety.
- Coordinate and plan programs in collaboration with fellow attendants and the Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
- Maintain accurate records, including participation counts, incident reports, and program evaluations, in accordance with HIPAA standards.
- Assist with the recruitment and training of volunteers.
- Manage equipment inventory and ensure all gear is properly maintained.
- Respond to injuries or emergencies and activate the emergency action plan when necessary.
- Monitor the department email account throughout the work week.
- Address customer service questions and enforce department policies to maintain a safe environment.
- Meet monthly with the Recreational Therapist for professional guidance and scheduling updates.
- Assist with the implementation and tabulation of surveys and assessments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at Sacramento State (minimum of 9 units for undergraduates or 6 units for graduate students).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Strong public speaking, time management, and customer service skills.
- Ability to follow directions and communicate clearly in both written and verbal formats.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or the ability to obtain it within 60 days of hire).
- A desire to work as part of a team and represent the program in a professional manner.
- Preferred: Major or minor in RPTA, Kinesiology, or Health Science.
- Preferred: Experience in leadership, facilitating adaptive recreation for individuals with disabilities, or creating lesson plans for groups of 10 or more.
Location & details#
- Location: The WELL, Sacramento State, Sacramento, CA.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Shifts are available Monday through Saturday. You may work up to 20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours during breaks.
- Compensation: $17.15 per hour.
