About the role#
Uplift Geosystems is hiring a Research & Development Intern to support our minerals processing and extractive metallurgy research. You will work on-site in our laboratory to help develop chemical recycling devices for the production of metals used in batteries, turbines, and structural materials.
What you'll do#
- Prepare rock samples for chemical composition analysis using mills, furnaces, sieves, and other equipment.
- Separate minerals using magnetism and density techniques.
- Execute experiments to measure metal leaching rates from rock samples.
- Interpret experimental data to evaluate process performance.
- Identify trends in your results and recommend process modifications.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program related to Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or Metallurgy.
- A safety-first mindset and commitment to laboratory safety practices.
- Comfort working in an on-site laboratory environment.
- Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, Origin, or Excel.
- Prior experience in a chemistry, materials, or environmental laboratory is helpful but not required.
- Knowledge of hazardous material handling, laboratory waste management, and analytical techniques like titration or mass spectrometry is a plus.

- This is an on-site position based in Baltimore, Maryland.
- The role is full-time.
- This is a paid internship with a compensation range of $20 to $40 per hour, depending on your experience level.
- We offer this position on a rolling basis.
