About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in industrial automation, PLC programming, and SCADA systems within critical infrastructure environments. You will work alongside experienced engineers and consultants on real projects that support water and wastewater infrastructure. This is not a shadowing role. You will take ownership of specific deliverables and contribute to systems that protect public health and improve community resilience.
What you'll do#
- Assist with PLC programming and SCADA configuration activities.
- Support troubleshooting, commissioning, system upgrades, and operational testing.
- Develop technical documentation including control strategies, standard operating procedures, and technical memorandums.
- Support SCADA Master Plan development, including existing condition assessments, conceptual alternatives analysis, and implementation planning.
- Assist with electrical, instrumentation, and controls engineering and design tasks.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on project coordination and technical research.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Cybersecurity, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
- Foundational understanding of engineering, troubleshooting, or programming concepts.
- Strong interest in industrial automation, operational technology, control systems, and critical infrastructure.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and consistently meet deadlines.
Location & details#
- Location: Phoenix, Arizona.
- Modality: This is an on-site role requiring an in-office presence for all hours worked.
- Commitment: Rolling, variable hour internship.
- Compensation: $22 per hour.
