About the role#
World Relief Sacramento is looking for an ESL Class Support Intern to assist our Education team. This role focuses on providing literacy instruction to Afghan women who have little or no prior education. You will work closely with our instructors to support virtual classroom environments and help manage the administrative needs of our program. This is an unpaid internship, though university credit may be available with approval.
What you'll do#
- Attend tutor training and shadow an ESL instructor during class sessions.
- Learn and implement specific literacy teaching techniques tailored for preliterate learners.
- Provide support during virtual classes by leading breakout groups, tracking attendance, and recording learning progress.
- Organize and maintain our library of online video resources.
- Create, update, and print educational materials for adult refugees.
- Handle general office tasks as needed.
What you'll need#
- A commitment to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Strong digital literacy skills, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Zoom, and WhatsApp.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- This position is open to female-presenting individuals only, in respect for the cultural values of the population served.
- Academic background in Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, History, English, Communications, or Public Health is preferred.
Location & details#
- The role is based in Sacramento, California, with a hybrid work schedule of 1 day in the office and 4 days working from home.
- You must commit to 10 hours per week.
- Availability is required for at least 2 of the following virtual class sessions: Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 8:45 am to 10:45 am, or Thursday from 11:15 am to 1:15 pm.
