About the role#
Zymeworks is seeking a Co-op Student to join the Protein Engineering team in Vancouver. This is a full-time, on-site, paid position. You will support experimental studies focused on the purification and characterization of recombinant proteins. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience within a research environment.
What you'll do#
- Purify recombinant proteins using various chromatography techniques, such as affinity and size-exclusion.
- Characterize proteins using methods including SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS, UV-VIS spectrophotometry, and UPLC-SEC.
- Prepare necessary media, buffers, and reagents for laboratory experiments.
- Maintain accurate records of methods and raw data in electronic laboratory notebooks.
- Evaluate experimental data and summarize results for team presentations.
- Assist with routine laboratory maintenance and follow established safety and scientific protocols.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate program in Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology, or a related discipline.
- Availability for a co-op term of at least 8 months.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a cross-functional team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with protein purification or biophysical characterization and knowledge of protein structure are considered assets.
