About the role#
As a Coatings Process Engineering Intern, you will support finishing processes at our Indianapolis facility. You will work with copper, decorative nickel, chrome, and zinc plating, as well as powder coating, e-coating, and architectural anodizing. This is a full-time, 12-week summer internship where you will shadow engineers and operators to learn process maintenance and improvement. You will gain hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment.
What you'll do#
- Monitor daily finishing processes including plating, powder coat, e-coat, and anodizing.
- Gather and organize process data such as bath chemistry, line speed, and quality metrics for team review.
- Support root-cause investigations for out-of-spec conditions.
- Participate in small improvement projects like optimizing rinse cycles or fixture designs.
- Maintain process documentation, including work instructions and batch records, and update logs.
- Shadow cross-functional teams in maintenance, materials management, and production planning.
- Contribute to process capability studies by collecting sample data and calculating Cp/Cpk.
- Present findings and recommendations at team meetings or intern roundtables.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Familiarity with MS Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
- Eagerness to learn process-control software.
- Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-starter attitude with the ability to manage multiple small tasks under supervision.
- Willingness to collaborate cross-functionally and work in a hands-on capacity.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
