About the role#
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is looking for a Community Engagement Grant Intern to support the California Tobacco Control Grant Project. You will help build community support for tobacco control and cancer-related policies through outreach and education. This role involves grassroots organizing, media support, and participation in public policy events.
What you'll do#
- Collect data at community events by conducting surveys, stakeholder interviews, and gathering petitions.
- Monitor city council agendas, research tobacco-related policies, and track media coverage.
- Attend local coalition meetings and city council sessions to educate decision makers on policy issues.
- Create and edit educational fact sheets and presentation materials.
- Co-facilitate workshops and assist with community outreach efforts.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as at least a second-year college student.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- Ability to commit to at least 15 hours of work per week.
- Plans to continue your education in the following term.
- Reliable transportation to travel to community events.
- Academic background in fields such as Public Health, Political Science, Sociology, Communications, or Nursing.
Location & details#
This is a paid, part-time internship with an hourly rate of $18. While the role is largely virtual, you must be able to travel to events in Irvine, Laguna Niguel, Anaheim Hills, or Huntington Beach. The position follows a rolling term schedule.
