About the role#
The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment is hiring two undergraduate students to assist with the systematic review of scientific publications regarding quaternary ammonium compounds. This project evaluates chemicals used in personal care, environmental, and agricultural products to understand their potential health effects. This is a part-time, temporary position for internal candidates only.
What you'll do#
Your primary focus during the first few months involves screening scientific studies and extracting toxicity data. You will organize information and summarize findings to support the development of state guidance. Depending on project needs and your interests, you may also:
- Conduct literature title and abstract screenings
- Extract and organize data
- Analyze data and map results
- Develop data visualizations
- Create literature inventories
- Evaluate individual studies
- Present findings to the team
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student taking at least six-semester units or nine quarter units
- A major in Public Health, Environmental Health, or Environmental Toxicology
- Interest in chemical toxicity assessment and systematic literature reviews
- Experience performing online research and literature reviews
- Experience working with large datasets
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Location & details#
This position is based in Sacramento, California. You will work in a hybrid environment, and you must reside and perform all work within California. The schedule is flexible between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday, with a maximum of 24 hours per week during the academic year.
