About the role#
Auto-Owners Insurance is hiring an Underwriter Intern for the summer of 2027. This full-time, paid position is based on-site in Columbia, Missouri. You will gain experience in insurance operations, risk analysis, and professional communication.
What you'll do#
- Learn insurance coverages, contracts, company philosophy, and procedures to support underwriting decisions.
- Review company policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements to understand their application.
- Analyze risk factors including loss experience, financial conditions, and physical characteristics.
- Get hands-on experience by working with various sections of the underwriting department.
- Communicate with independent agents and other employees through verbal and written channels.
What you'll need#
- You are currently enrolled in college and entering your junior or senior year.
- You are pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Economics.
- Ability to organize data, handle multiple tasks, and make independent decisions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- You can resolve complex issues.
- An interest in building product knowledge through educational programs.

- Pay starts at $20.00 per hour.
