About the role#
Barr Engineering Co. is seeking a structural engineering intern for the summer of 2027. Based in Hibbing, Minnesota, this role supports our structural engineering group on technical assignments for hydropower facilities, wind turbine foundations, and industrial processing sites. You will gain hands-on experience in a professional consulting environment while working with engineers and project managers.
What you'll do#
- Apply engineering principles to assist with calculations and modeling for industrial and energy-related structures.
- Prepare engineering drawings, technical specifications, and design documentation.
- Contribute to project reports and help develop cost estimates for engineering solutions.
- Participate in site visits and inspections to observe construction activities and ensure design compliance.
- Use word processing, spreadsheet, and structural engineering software to support team tasks.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in civil engineering with junior or senior standing.
- Minimum GPA of 3.2/4.0.
- Completion of at least two semesters of physics and three semesters of mathematics.
- Possession of a current, valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work in outdoor conditions and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

- Modality: This position is hybrid, splitting time between a home office and the Hibbing office.
- Travel: Up to 30% travel and fieldwork may be required.
