    About the role#

As a Sensor Hardware Test intern, you will work with our test engineering team to characterize and validate the sensors that power our autonomous excavators. You will build test fixtures, run lab campaigns, and turn raw sensor data into conclusions that guide hardware selection. You will also spend time at our field site to see how bench results perform on a live construction machine. You will own a hands-on project involving sensor hardware testing from start to finish.

    What you'll do#

    • Build and iterate on test fixtures and benchtop setups, including mechanical mounts, wiring harnesses, and DAQ integration.
    • Run structured sensor test campaigns in the lab and capture repeatable data.
    • Deploy test setups and instrumentation at our field site and support live field test campaigns on active construction equipment.
    • Develop tools to automate data collection, process raw sensor logs, and summarize results.
    • Scope and select test equipment for new test setups.
    • Support electrical and mechanical debugging of test hardware, including wiring and sensor interfacing.
    • Document test methods, results, and findings to present to the test engineering team.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Optics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
    • Hands-on experience building or testing hardware through coursework, personal projects, or a prior internship.
    • Working proficiency in Python for data processing, scripting, or automation.
    • Comfort with lab equipment and electrical debugging like multimeters, oscilloscopes, and DAQ systems.
    • Ability to work outdoors and around active construction equipment.
    • Willingness to spend time on-site at our field test location.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Exposure to cameras, lidar, radar, or other sensing hardware is helpful.
    • Experience with CAD tools for mechanical fixture design.
    • Familiarity with Git and working within a shared codebase.
    • Prior experience in robotics, autonomous systems, or controls.

    Location & details#

    • This position is based in San Francisco, California.
    • The role is on-site.
    • This is a full-time, paid internship with a rolling term.
