About the role#
Big West Oil is seeking interns for our Summer 2026 program in North Salt Lake. You will work on engineering projects that support operational reliability, process safety, and facility improvement. This role provides exposure to refining operations across disciplines including process engineering, process controls, process safety, and economics and planning. You will work alongside experienced engineers to gain practical experience in a refinery environment.
What you'll do#
- Support engineering teams with data collection, performance monitoring, and root cause analysis.
- Contribute to projects focused on improving safety, energy efficiency, and unit optimization.
- Assist in updating and reviewing PFDs, P&IDs, and control logic diagrams.
- Participate in unit troubleshooting, safety reviews, and economic evaluations.
- Follow all safety procedures and participate in safety meetings and audits.
- Prepare and deliver a final presentation summarizing your project contributions.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
- Strong academic background in core engineering principles and problem-solving.
- Genuine interest in refining, process systems, or energy-related industries.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently as a self-motivated and detail-oriented person.

- Location: North Salt Lake, Utah.
- Term: Full-time, on-site internship from May to August 2026.
