About the role#
Big West Oil offers a structured summer internship for university students interested in corporate accounting and finance. You will work on-site at our North Salt Lake facility from May to August. This program integrates you into our finance team to gain practical experience in daily financial operations, record-keeping, and reporting. You will receive mentorship from experienced professionals to help build your skills for a future career in accounting.
What you'll do#
- Prepare journal entries and complete account reconciliations.
- Support the closing processes for both month-end and year-end.
- Perform variance analysis on financial data to find trends and discrepancies.
- Assist with special projects like audits and process improvement initiatives.
- Apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to financial reporting tasks.
- Collaborate with various departments to maintain accurate financial records.
- Use Power BI to develop data visualizations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master degree program for Accounting or Finance.
- Junior or Senior standing is preferred.
- A strong academic foundation in core accounting principles.
- Interest in finance and the energy industry.
- Ability to work independently while remaining detail-oriented and self-motivated.
- Clear communication skills and a preference for working in a team environment.
