About the role#
This internship at the Steven Cohen Military Clinic provides an opportunity to support Veterans, particularly those who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and their families. You will gain experience in trauma and Post Traumatic Stress while developing your skills in individual, couples, and family therapy. The role requires training or certification in evidence-based practices such as Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or Cognitive Processing Therapy during your time with us.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct clinical services to Veterans and their families.
- Conduct clinical intake assessments for clients as needed.
- Deliver individual, couples, and family psychotherapy with a focus on evidence-based treatments.
- Document patient screenings, psychosocial assessments, progress notes, and referral information.
- Coordinate care with physicians, clinic directors, case managers, and other clinical disciplines.
- Participate in weekly clinical, supervision, and administrative meetings.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a 2nd year student in a Master’s degree program for social work, counseling, or a related behavioral health field.
- Familiarity with DSM-IV and DSM-V diagnostic criteria.
- Knowledge of PTSD diagnosis and treatment methods.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience working with adults, children, couples, and families is preferred.
- Interest in expanding clinical modalities beyond individual adult treatment is preferred.
